One day, on the bank of a wide river, a Buffalo was foraging for food. He was enjoying the green grass by the river when suddenly he heard the sound of a Crocodile whimpering in pain.
"Help... help me...!" moaned the Crocodile, who was pinned between two large logs.
The kind-hearted Buffalo felt pity. He approached and asked, "What happened to you, Crocodile?"
The Crocodile answered, "I've been stuck here since this morning. Please help me get out, and I promise I won't hurt you!"
The naive Buffalo believed the Crocodile. Using his horns and his strength, he pushed the logs until the Crocodile was successfully freed.
However, as soon as the Crocodile was free, his eyes shone with malice. "Thank you, Buffalo. Now, I'm hungry, and you're going to be my meal!"
The Buffalo was shocked and said, "But you just promised you wouldn't harm me!"
The Crocodile just laughed, "A promise? In this world, the strong prey on the weak!"
Just as the Crocodile was about to pounce on the Buffalo, the cunning Mouse-deer arrived. He saw the situation and approached them.
"What's going on here?" the Mouse-deer asked, pretending not to know.
The Buffalo explained everything, and the Crocodile confirmed it boastfully.
The Mouse-deer shook his head, "I don't believe it! How could a Crocodile possibly get trapped by such small logs? I want to see exactly how you got stuck earlier!"
The arrogant Crocodile wanted to prove his words. He went back into his original position and allowed the Mouse-deer to place the logs back as they were.
As soon as the Crocodile was stuck again, the Mouse-deer laughed, "Well, now you're back to where you started! Buffalo, let's go before he tricks you again!"
The Buffalo was grateful and immediately left with the Mouse-deer. Meanwhile, the trapped Crocodile could only growl in frustration.
From that day on, the Buffalo learned to be more cautious when helping others. Kindness is important, but it must be accompanied by wisdom!
