In a small town in Indonesia, there lived a boy named Habibie. He wasn’t an ordinary child. Since he was little, he loved asking questions. "Why can birds fly? Why don’t planes fall?" Everyone in his village knew that Habibie was a smart kid full of curiosity.
Habibie loved reading books and fixing broken things. Sometimes, he would even take apart his own toys just to see how they worked. Strangely enough, he could always put them back together — even better than before!
A Dream to Go Far Away
As Habibie grew older, he dreamed of building his own airplane. He wanted to create a plane that was safe and could carry people to faraway places. He studied hard until he earned a scholarship to a distant country called Germany.
In Germany, Habibie didn’t just study — he worked tirelessly. He often stayed up late to finish his assignments. His friends were amazed because Habibie hardly ever seemed tired.
"I want to build the best airplane!" he said with a smile.
A Big Problem in Aviation
At that time, the aviation world had a big problem. Airplanes often suffered damage to their wings and bodies. Tiny cracks appeared in the metal of the planes. If those cracks grew bigger, the planes could break apart in the sky! It was very dangerous.
People were confused about how to stop these cracks. Many scientists tried, but no one had found the solution yet.
Habibie saw this problem and thought, "I must find the answer!"
He began researching day and night. He calculated, drew diagrams, and created complex formulas. He even forgot to eat sometimes because he was so focused.
A Brilliant Discovery
After months of hard work, Habibie finally found the answer! He developed a theory that could predict how tiny cracks in airplanes would spread. With his theory, engineers could now build planes that were stronger and safer.
People in Germany were amazed. They gave him the nickname "Mr. Crack", not because he liked cracks, but because he defeated the cracks that scared everyone.
"I’m happy, not because they call me Mr. Crack, but because now people can fly safely," Habibie said with a warm smile.
Returning to His Homeland
Even though he was successful in Germany, Habibie never forgot Indonesia. He returned to his homeland and built an airplane industry there. He wanted Indonesia to have its own airplanes.
Habibie successfully built Indonesia’s first aircraft, named N250 Gatotkaca. This plane became the pride of the nation! Everyone applauded when this locally made airplane soared in the sky for the first time.
The Lesson from Mr. Habibie
Mr. Habibie’s story teaches us many things. He showed that big dreams can come true if we are willing to learn and work hard. Even though he came from a small town, he made the world admire him.
If Habibie could do it, we can too! What dream do you want to achieve when you grow up?
