During a very long dry season, it was extremely difficult for the birds, including the Crow, to find water to drink. One day, as the Crow was flying in search of water for itself, it suddenly spotted a pitcher from above. It could see the pitcher contained a little bit of water.
However, the pitcher was tall and had a narrow neck. The Crow kept trying in various ways to drink the water inside the pitcher, but it couldn't reach it. It was on the verge of giving up and felt that it would surely die of thirst.
In the midst of its despair, it suddenly had an idea. Perhaps this was its last attempt before truly succumbing to thirst. It picked up the pebbles lying next to the pitcher, then dropped them, one by one, into the pitcher.
Each time a stone fell into the pitcher, the water level gradually rose higher and higher until the water reached the top, and the Crow was finally able to easily drink the water from the pitcher.
