The Kind Tortoise, the Helpful Rabbit, and the Two Accusers

In a forest lived a Tortoise. He was known to be a kind-hearted tortoise. Every day, he diligently looked after and tended to his vegetable garden. He grew vegetables not just for himself but for all his friends in the forest. Once a week, he would harvest the produce from his garden and share it with his friends. Because of his generosity, his friends were also kind to him.

One day, when the vegetable harvest day arrived, in the early morning, one of his friends, the Rabbit, came to the Tortoise's house, intending to help him harvest the vegetables.

"Hello, my friend Tortoise, is today the time for harvesting vegetables?" the Rabbit asked.

"Yes, that's right, Rabbit. What brings you to see me so early in the morning?" the Tortoise replied.

"If you'll allow it, I would like to help you harvest the vegetables," the Rabbit answered.

"Yes... of course, my friend," the Tortoise permitted.

While the Tortoise went inside his house to fetch the harvesting tools, the Rabbit waited patiently outside.

"My friend Rabbit, let's start harvesting!" the Tortoise invited.

"Alright, my friend," the Rabbit replied.

The two of them began to harvest and work together. While they were busy, the Mouse-deer and the Monkey passed by. But they didn't approach them. Instead, the two began to whisper.

"Mouse-deer, look at the Rabbit helping the Tortoise harvest vegetables!" the Monkey said.

"Yes... I see him. But the Rabbit is just pretending to be nice to the Tortoise," the Mouse-deer remarked.

"What do you mean, 'pretending'?" the Monkey asked.

"The truth is, the Rabbit only wants to get a bigger share of the vegetables, that's why he's helping the Tortoise with the harvest," the Mouse-deer said with a cynical tone.

The Mouse-deer and the Monkey then walked away from the Tortoise's house. Before they knew it, the day was getting later, and the harvesting was finished. After that, the Tortoise instructed the Rabbit to inform all their friends to gather at the Tortoise's house.

Some time later, the Tortoise's yard was filled with friends lining up to receive vegetables. However, most of them felt surprised because it was unusual for the Tortoise to be helped by the Rabbit. Shortly after, the Tortoise began to distribute the vegetables as usual, and the Rabbit helped the Tortoise. In the middle of the distribution, one friend asked,

"Rabbit, it's unusual for you to help the Tortoise?"

"Well, because every time harvest day comes, the Tortoise always does it alone, so I decided to help him," the Rabbit answered.

"Wow... you're so kind, Rabbit," another friend commented.

"Yes... because it is our obligation to help our friends," the Rabbit said.

The distribution of vegetables was soon over. However, the Tortoise felt strange because he didn't see the Mouse-deer and the Monkey gathering to take their vegetables. Then the Rabbit saw them both and asked,

"Hey, Mouse-deer and Monkey, why didn't you join the gathering at the Tortoise's house?"

"What for? Didn't you already take all our shares of the vegetables?" the Monkey said.

"What do you mean, Monkey?" the Rabbit asked, confused.

"Just be honest. We already know that you are only pretending to be nice to the Tortoise because you want a bigger share of vegetables, right?" the Mouse-deer chimed in.

"That's not at all what you think, friends. I haven't even received a small share yet," the Rabbit replied.

"Come on, let's leave!" the Monkey said.

Then the Mouse-deer and the Monkey left. At that moment, the Rabbit felt sad for being accused by the Mouse-deer and the Monkey. The Rabbit then went back to the Tortoise's house and told him everything. After that, the Rabbit left.

Several weeks later, since that incident, every time the harvest arrived, the Rabbit no longer helped the Tortoise with the vegetable harvest. He felt uncomfortable because of the accusations made by the Mouse-deer and the Monkey. Even when the Tortoise specifically invited him to harvest the vegetables, the Rabbit still refused.

One day, the Mouse-deer and the Monkey intended to go somewhere. Along the way, they suddenly fell into a hole about two meters deep. It turned out that this was a trap deliberately made by hunters who wanted to catch any animal in the forest. Both of them were startled and kept shouting for help.

Then the Rabbit passed by and heard the cries for help. He followed the source of the sound. He then saw that it was the Mouse-deer and the Monkey who were shouting for help.

"My friends, Mouse-deer and Monkey, what are you doing in that hole?" the Rabbit asked.

"Help us, Rabbit! We've fallen into this trap hole," the Mouse-deer cried.

"Of course, Mouse-deer. Wait a moment, I'll go find something to get you out!" the Rabbit replied.

Meanwhile, the Rabbit ran to find a tool to pull the Mouse-deer and the Monkey up. He suddenly found a long rope and quickly rushed back to the Mouse-deer and the Monkey. With all his strength, he pulled them up one by one.

Suddenly, the Tortoise appeared and then helped the Rabbit. After some time, the Mouse-deer and the Monkey were finally pulled out.

"It's a good thing you're safe," the Rabbit said.

"Thank you, Rabbit, for saving both of us," the Mouse-deer said.

"Of course, my friend, but you should also thank the Tortoise because he helped me too!" the Rabbit replied.

"Yes... we are very grateful to both of you, because if you hadn't been here, we might have been taken by those wicked hunters," the Monkey said.

"But first, we apologize because we accused you before, Rabbit," the Mouse-deer said, pleadingly.

"I've already forgotten about it, so you don't need to apologize," the Rabbit said.

"Now, let's all go home together!" the Tortoise chimed in.

Then they all went home together. And after that incident, they became friends and lived in harmony forever.
